HSSE: heterosexuals for same sex equality… Photography for a Sexy Smart calendar
I just completed one of the most rewarding jobs of my career. Here’s what happened:
Derek Forgie has for years been a fantastic comedian in Toronto and a champion for gay rights. To that end, he started the organization HSSE to help fight for equality and educate. He and his fellow activists have been traveling to schools and events all over Canada using humour, fancy powerpoint presentations, and good old fashioned common sense dispel myths and prejudice regarding homosexuality.
Unfortunately, as great as a cause is, expenses do come up and need to be paid.
Derek contacted me with an idea: He would put together a calendar featuring some of Toronto’s Sexy Smart women from all walks of life, and the money would be used to help the organization in their cause. He asked me, because of my love for the comedy scene, to shoot the Toronto Comedienne Month (aka April). I was delighted.
Some brainstorming went on and the winning concept was for a slumber party gone horribly wrong. I showed up in the Drake’s “80′s Heartthrob Room” with my gear, some of Toronto’s top female comics dressed in lingerie, buckets of fake blood, and feathers. It was an awesome photo shoot.
